Trinamool Congress leader, Abhishek Banerjee, who is currently in New York, USA, for eye treatment, has targeted the Central Enforcement Directorate (ED) through social media.
He alleged that there are ineligible officers in the central agency spreading fake news in the media in his name. On Monday, he wrote on Instagram, "The presence of incompetent people in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is really disappointing." He accused the ED of wasting taxpayers' money in prolonged investigations without producing proper evidence in court, leading to a low conviction rate of only 0.5 per cent.
The timing of his attack on the ED comes after a viral copy of the chargesheet mentioning his name, indicating the possibility of the agency taking direct action against him in an appointment corruption case.
